Shortstown Heritage

Shortstown history - A brief overview

Shortstown in Bedfordshire.

Much has been written about the Airships, Sheds and Barrage Balloons but very little had been recorded about the people who worked on them. There appears to be hardly any knowledge available of the early Shorts years with records extremely hard to find. Again most of the newspaper reports at the time of the R101 crash focused on the more privileged passengers on board and the more prominent personalities in charge.

However by studying the registers ,newspapers and books it becomes clear that there were definitive events which shaped our history and each event brought along new waves of people into the village. This section is split into the following pages each representing a phase of village life.
